For those of you who are not familiar with Langar Hall, it is a country house that has evolved into a 12 bedroom hotel and restaurant who specialise in weddings (fully licensed), private parties whilst offering first class business facilities, and last but not least GREAT food! You may also be interested to know that Langar Hall can be traced back to when it was a Medieval castle, the original castle sitting on a different plot of land to that of the Hall we have today. Langar Hall also has ancestry linking back to Shakespeare, with the mention of the Hall’s previous occupants, the Scrope family, in Shakspeare’s Henry V. The Scropes did in fact inherit the property through marriage and in Henry V, Lord Scrope is last seen being taken away for execution, after accusations of plotting to kill the King. (source: Experience Nottinghamshire, article: Langar Hall is top of it’s class. September 5th 2013) Although their guests have included fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, musician Jools Holland, romantic novelist Barbara Cartland, comedians Jack Dee and Lee Evans and cricket commentator Henry Blofield, please do not be fooled into thinking that whilst the celebrities choose to stay there and their recent successes at the awards have turned this wonderful retreat into a den of opulence, you would be so wrong. Langar Hall is a family run business that has the same approach to all of their guests wether they are regulars or visiting for the first time, you will be met with a sincere welcome and made to feel at home straight away. I regularly perform at Langar Hall and often hear how visitors have enjoyed their stay and can’t wait to come back. Perhaps this is why the readers voted Langar Hall Britain’s best rural hotel of the year? Personally I couldn’t recommend it enough for any special occasion or business meeting. I have had the pleasure in performing there on many occasion and most recently at their cocktail evening. It was a sellout event that included a Psychic hour, a Vintage 2 Versace showcase and the launch of Niche Ladies handbags. FAB night!! During the evening I managed to have a casual chat with Imogen Skirving the proprietor of Langar Hall who had just got back from her research trip of Taj Mumbai, India. Still suffering with jet lag she told me all about her trip and what an beautiful part of the world Mumbai is, then proceeded to discuss the award ceremony, saying how she didn’t expect to win anything but was happy to have been nominated. ‘ We were just going to have a night out in London and then after winning the award it just made the whole evening fabulous’. There you have it, a little in-site into the best rural hotel in the country. Well worth a visit! Langar Hall have just booked Nottingham singer Campbell Bass to perform a romantic set on Saturday 15th February 2014
